Comparison of magazines

Magazine name: XXL
Price: £3.95
Pages: 122
Sample of advertisement:
Heineken lager beer advertisement.  Main picture is of a black man holding a heineken beer bottle and he is socialising with friends.  This makes the alcoholic beverage look like a sophisticated drink that is to be enjoyed with friends.  Colours used are green, white and black adding to the classiness of the advert.  The traditional slogan is situated at the top-middle of the advert "Give yourself a good name".
Sample of article:
Most articles are on rappers and hip-hop and there are big names such as Justin Bieber and Kanye West that will attract a lot of readers attention.  Articles are around 8 pages each but have only about 2 pages worth of writting and the rest features pictures of the featured artist.

Magazine name: Big Cheese
Price: £3.90
Pages: 102
Sample of advertisement:
Fat wreck chords advertisement.  Four main pictures each of them being a cd being sold.  Selling Metal/rock/punk music cd's which would appeal to the sort of people who would by this magazine in the first place.
Sample of article:
The Ramones are interviewed in this article and the interview itself seems reasonably formal for an informal magazine.  There is a lot of text as it is one of the highlights of the magazine.  The questions are predictable and none are deep and risky.  There is a big picture at the top of the article of the Ramones at the height of their career and "The Ramones" is in bold so it catches the readers eye.  The article keeps to the rock/punk "feel" of the magazine
